Alan Downes is an award winning photographer, Channel 4 published videographer, qualified drone pilot, Apple Product Professional, Apple Teacher and Google Certified Educator, Certified Minecraft Educator and also sole proprietor of Rough Cuts Ltd. From age 16, which was quite a long time ago, he has worked in the retail technology sector and has years of experience with computers, software, peripherals, mobile phones and apps. His love of gadgets is unparalleled. By the age of 22 he was managing his first electronics store in Colwyn Bay and was promoted after only 4 months, until he ran a number of flagship stores in Chester over 15 years.

He's always been interested in Photography but when his daughters were born in the early 2000s he became interested in video to capture them growing up. Using digital tape, clumsy video recorders, slow computers and poor software, he's learnt the hard way how difficult video creation can be. He also started using SLRs when they used film with different ISO ratings, so understands the principles behind capturing the perfect shot. In 2016 he set up Rough Cuts Ltd after volunteering in local schools teaching kids the basics of digital media, video capture and creation. A keen advocate for mental well being, he's helped support small business, local government, enterprise schemes and schools, with everything from simple photography, aerial videography, website setup & promotional videos.

Alan's passion for technology, determination and tenacity when things don't work as they ought and thrifty nature, mean he's developed a set of skills which are perfect for supporting others.
